The SoGood Mom Files

Wow, two profiles in one week… Can you handle it?  Not sure I can!  My friends who started The SoGood asked me to put together a post for their very popular Mom Files column and I really loved writing it.  “What is The SoGood?” you ask.  Pretty much your best girlfriend, but more organized: it is a place where you can turn for the best of everything in your area, whether it be a solid interior designer or a chic florist.  Genius, no?!  Read on to learn more about my favorites for momma and baby.

Products That Make my Life (as a momma) Easier:

Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask: I’ve probably mentioned this beta-hydroxy mask on Bare Beauty a hundred times.  Whether you are looking to glow for a big night or you need to treat a nasty breakout, this mask is THE answer.  It minimizes pores, exfoliates and dries clear, so you can walk around the house without feeling silly.  I even wear it to bed or to spinning class sometimes, which just amplifies its effects.  Cost: $55 for 1 oz.

One Love Organics Healthy Locks Dry Shampoo Powder: Conventional dry shampoo aerosol sprays are so, so bad for you, (read why here) but most powder versions fall short in the performance department.  Not this one, though: Healthy Locks is the best dry shampoo I’ve ever used.  Not only is it super-effective, it doesn’t leave hair white or chalky-feeling, (even if your hair is dark) and it smells amazing.  Cost: $12 for .8 oz.

Splurge Skincare The Rub: No more excuses for dry, flaky skin.  This is the best body scrub you’ll ever try; the sugar crystals effectively and gently exfoliate (no nasty microbeads here) and organic safflower oil, cocoa butter and shea butter moisturize without leaving skin greasy.  You won’t even need to apply body lotion after showering.  Score!  Cost: $26 for 8 oz.

Ilia Lip Conditioner (in Crimson & Clover): Since women inevitably “eat” what they wear on their lips, it’s very important that it’s free of toxins.  Ilia Beauty makes Clean, flattering, on-trend colors in elegant packaging.  My favorite Ilia product is their Lip Conditioner; it feels like lip balm and looks like lipstick.  This shade is a favorite; it perks up my complexion when I don’t have time to apply a lot of makeup.  Cost: $26.

RMS Beauty Living Luminizer:  Every woman, especially every mother, should own this illuminator from RMS Beauty.  This Clean formula is free of silicones and mineral oil and the shimmer is extremely subtle, creating a healthy-looking glow.  You don’t need a mirror to apply it because you really can’t mess it up; I dab it on the inner corners of my eyes (to fake a good night’s sleep) and on my brow and cheek bones (to fake youthful bone structure).  Cost: $38 for .17 oz.

A Few Green favorites for Baby:

Zoe Organics Diaper Balm: I use this every single time I change my daughter’s diaper and I think she’s maybe had two diaper rashes in the year she’s been alive.  This balm acts as a natural barrier,  protecting skin from moisture and bacteria.  It also contains one of my favorite, all-star ingredients, calendula.  Cost: $18 for 2 oz.

Weleda Calendula Cream Bath:  This cream bath is amazing for all babies, particularly those with eczema or other skin sensitivities.  It’s also great for the winter months; this formula is so moisturizing I don’t even need to apply lotion to her skin after bath time.  Warning: unless you’re going for the slicked-back look, do not use as shampoo!  Cost: $16.50 for 6.8 oz.

Jiva-Apoha Body Oil in Baby Jiva: This sweet almond oil base enhanced with Roman chamomile and lavender smells like heaven and the aromatherapy benefits are very real.  These essential oils have been used since the beginning of time to calm and soothe.  Sometimes, I ask Annabel if I can borrow it.  Luckily, she can’t say “no” yet.  Cost: $45 for 2 oz.

Zoe Organics Bath Wash: This foaming shampoo and body wash is ultra-gentle and smells so soft and clean, minus the synthetic perfumes and formaldehyde.  The pump is also really convenient when you’re working with a wet moving target!  Cost: $16 for 5.25 oz.

NatraBio Teething Relief Liquid: Some people say they don’t even notice when their child is teething – um, what?!  There are a lot of teething remedies out there that have failed us, but this formula does help pacify my sad little teething monster.  The formula is totally natural, homeopathic and free from sugar and alcohol.  Cost: $7.50 for 1 oz.
