Do You Need New Makeup Brushes?

Luxie Cruelty-Free Makeup Brushes Review on barebeauty.com

Hi there, Bare Beauties!  I’ve been meaning to buy new makeup brushes for a while; it’s one of those things that never really made it to the to-do list.  Mine are ancient and really beat up; they are by Trish McEvoy, and they are certainly not vegan or cruelty-free.  I was recently perusing Safe & Chic and some really pretty makeup brushes caught my eye.  (Scroll down for a DISCOUNT CODE.)

Luxie Beauty makeup brushes are silky, soft and fluffy, without hurting any silky, soft, fluffy animals in the process.  I’m not vegan, and I buy a good leather handbag every couple of years, but I do consider myself a conscious consumer, and I shop ethically as much as I can.  When trading out makeup brushes, it was really important to me that they were high quality, effective and cruelty-free.  Also, as I age, I’ve been feeling the need for a few additional brushes to work additional magic on my face.  Luxie Beauty has so many options, I’m sure even a professional makeup artist would be satisfied with their offerings.

Another reason to switch to vegan, cruelty-free makeup brushes is cleanliness.  The fact is, animal hair brushes are harboring a ton of bacteria because of the structure of the hair follicles. Those hairs trap oil and dead skin and breed bacteria. They’re also harder to thoroughly clean. In other words, they’re some level of dirty no matter how often you clean them.  This is especially important for those with acne-prone skin, as we all know that bad bacteria can cause breakouts.

  • Luxie Rose Gold Large Angled Face Brush 504
  • Luxie Rose Gold Duo Fiber Stippling Face Brush 508
  • Luxie Rose Gold Foundation Face Makeup Brush 510
  • Luxie Rose Gold Concealer Eye Brush 211
  • Luxie Rose Gold Large Shade Eye Brush 209

I’ve really liked these brushes, and all the options have definitely made applying makeup a little easier.  It’s amazing – you don’t have to work as hard if you have the right brush for the job.  Also, I feel like I should mention that the carrying case smells like shoe polish, so the brushes do at first, too!  I just rinsed mine and let them air dry for a day, and they were fine.  Remember, you get 10% off everything at Safe & Chic with my personal discount code, BAREBEAUTY.

How to Clean Makeup Brushes: There are a million brush cleaner formulas out there, but I like to use good ole’ Dr. Bronners Tea Tree Liquid Castile Soap.  It’s organic, fair-trade, cost-effective, it lathers well, and tea tree oil is antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic and antiviral.  Make sure you reshape brushes and then lay them flat on a clean towel to dry.  Easy!  Do this once a week.
