Does Your Skincare Routine Need a Boost?

True Botanicals Antioxidant Booster Review on barebeauty.com

It’s almost Labor Day Weekend!  Yay!!!  But before you go, I want to discuss an awesome new launch that I am really impressed by.  (I think) all of you know that I am a True Botanicals devotee.  When nothing else, natural or otherwise, would help my crazy hormonal cystic acne 3 years ago, their products cleared me up in 4 weeks – seriously.  I was shocked, amazed and so, so grateful.  If you’ve ever had a painful, unsightly skin issue, I am sure you can relate.

Fast forward 3 years, and my skin is in good shape.  I do get a blemish maybe once a month, but it is ONE zit compared to a dozen or more, and it’s usually gone in a few days.  While I still use True Botanicals’ CLEAR line, day and night, as my skincare regime, what I focus on these days is hyperpigmentation and melasma (from stubborn acne and pregnancy), and the first signs of aging. Luckily, this line focuses on those issues, not just the acne itself.

Speaking of those issues, let’s talk about True Botanicals’ new Antioxidant Booster.  At first, when the True Botanicals team told me about this upcoming addition to the line, I was like, Why?  It’s already perfect; there’s no need to add another booster!  (I’ve always used their Vitamin C Booster at night.  Click here for my entire AM and PM skincare routine.)  But, then I tried it.  And, I loved it. It’s not “better” than the Vitamin C Booster, it’s just different.  It’s equally as amazing; I can’t really pick a favorite child because both improve ALL skin types.

The Science: What’s particularly exciting about this product is that it is made from whole apple peel.  Ever wonder why apples keep for so long?  The answer is in their high count of antioxidants, that all work synergistically, of course.  (Good, old nature.  She really know what she’s doing.)  True Botanicals worked with a scientist from Cornell University’s food science program who developed this unique ingredient that’s packed with some of the most potent antioxidant power available today. (Side note: this particular ingredient and the way it is processed is patented, so beware of imposters boasting about the apple-this and apple-that.)  Before now, whole apple peel has never before been used in skincare, so this is definitely a breakthrough product, and it’s easy to see why.  Whole Apple Peel is packed full of polyphenols, rutin, quercetin and ursolic acid, and while each of these components have been used on their own as active ingredients, True Botanicals is harnessing their powerful cooperative  effect by keeping them together and using them together.  Because it is one of the most concentrated and powerful antioxidant skincare products ever made, this booster has the ability to both prevent and repair skin damage like nothing else.  The Antioxidant Booster smooths wrinkles, firms skin, evens skin tone brightens hyperpigmentation, lightens scarring, clears acne, calms inflammation, reduces redness and protects against UV damage.  It basically answers every skincare prayer, no big deal.

What I’ve noticed in 3 weeks:  The first time I used the Antioxidant Booster, I woke up forgetting I’d done something different the night before; I looked in the mirror that morning, and was like, Oh!  My skin was noticeably brighter.  I decided to use it every night to see what else it could do.  My hyperpigmentation is definitely a smidgen lighter, and I wake up with less inflamed skin, which is enough motivation for me to keep using it faithfully.  I saw no difference in my acne from when I switched from the Vitamin C Booster, so that keeps me happy, and I’ll be on the lookout for less visible wrinkles and firmer skin.  I’ll keep you posted on that front.

How to use it:  Every night before bed, wash your face, apply some mist and the face oil of your choice, and then mix a couple of shakes of booster with 2-3 pumps of the serum of your choice (I love True Botanicals CLEAR Cellular Repair Serum) in your palm.  Rub your hands together vigorously so the mixture is smooth, not grainy, and apply all over face and neck.  If you have any leftover, rub it on your chest, or the backs of your hands, or anywhere else that needs a boost.  With my serum, I’ll be alternating the Antioxidant Booster with the Vitamin C Booster every other night to ensure I’m giving my skin ALL the antioxidants.

Let me know if you ever have any questions about True Botanicals; because I’ve ben using it for so long, and because I collaborate with them frequently, I have picked up a lot of tips, tricks and knowledge along the way regarding their products.

Happy Labor Day Weekend!  If you need me, I’ll be crying in my beach towel, mourning the end of summer.

  1. I’ve been waiting for your review! I just started using the antioxidant booster and so far i can’t complain. I did want to mention I emailed you a few weeks ago with some skincare questions and never got a response. Let me know if you didn’t get it and I’ll resend it!

  2. I’d love to know if you’ve done a comparison review on Vintners Daughter oil vs. True Botanicals oil. And if you haven’t, it would be very helpful if you did a comparison trial and wrote a post on it!

    • I love both so much. What I usually tell people is that if you are looking for an entire regimen, go for True Botanicals. If you are more of a minimalist, lazy about skincare, or you’re just looking for one product that yields results, go for Vintner’s Daughter.

  3. Hello, Jessica!

Thank you for sharing your insights about these skincare products! I’m beginning to build my routine so this post is really helpful. Take care!

  5. Hi! Thank you for this post! I am thinking about using the Clear line but am nervous about purging. My skin is actually in decent shape but I get hormonal spots here and there along with a couple blocked pores. Did you go thru a purging process? How long was it and if you did, how did you manage? I’m just coming off bcp so am also nervous about how my skin my react. Thank you!

    • I don’t *think* my skin purged, but my skin was so broken out, that maybe it did, and I didn’t even notice! All in all, my skin was clear in 3-4 weeks after rating the True Botanicals CLEAR routine.

  6. Hi
Im newly pregnant with my third baby and suffer from hormonal acne. When Im not pregnant, I am able to keep my skin clear with salicylic acid and benzoil peroxide, but I need to avoid those during pregnancy. I just ordered the clear routine, as well as the eye serum. Should I try the antioxidant booster or vitamin c booster? Im so excited to try these products. And any additional advice you have for pregnancy acne would be great (was there a great spot treatment that worked for you?)

    Thanks!
    Meredith

    • Hi Meredith, I think that the CLEAR Cellular Repair Serum combined with the Antioxidant Booster make a great nighttime team to combat acne while pregnant. The antioxidant booster works really well for inflamed skin. I can see a difference in redness overnight. I like Osmia Organics Spot Treatment during pregnancy. Thanks for putting your trust into Bare Beauty.
